I went to an antique/art gallery today and found this little canvass of communist kitsch. It’s by a Cuban artist named Camilo Diaz de Villalvilla who has gotten a little bit of renown doing such playful little things. I didn’t know that when I got it. I just knew that I liked it and that it was inexpensive and I had to have it.

It’s also sort of an encapsulation of the central hypocrisy of my life: I’m an intellectual leftist who owns a bunch of Apple products, harbors all sorts of financial insecurities and who not infrequently has a desire to be wealthy. Figured I may as well put this thing on my shelf to remind me that I’m no less of a fraud than anyone else is.
