The kids and I picked up some Ben and Jerry’s tonight. I got Cherry Garcia. Anna didn’t understand the play on words so I had to explain to her who Jerry Garcia and the Grateful Dead were, which in turn led to a brief overview of jam bands and why a couple of ice cream-making hippies from Vermont would be into jam bands which led to an even larger discussion of old jam band-loving hippie culture. And you know where THAT leads, obviously. A “Just say NO” message from parent to child that I hope to GOD is heeded.
I mean, if she wants to smoke weed like crazy, I’m not gonna stop her. But I will NEVER allow her to listen to jam bands while she lives under my roof.
